SWABA 2016 November 4-5 Arizona State University

Thanks everyone for making SWABA 2015 a huge success. This was our first meeting outside of Arizona and the UNM faculty and students did a fantastic job organizing the conference.

For our 4th Annual SWABA meeting, we will return to the place it all started…ASU.

Abstract submissions are due September 30th 2015 at 5pm PST. We encourage submissions of abstracts of research being developed for other meetings. Please pass the word around about this conference and let your colleagues, advisers, and students know about this great opportunity to present your work.

First meeting a great success

GroupPic

The first meeting of the SouthWestern Association of Biological Anthropologists was held Nov 15-16 at ASU. It was a terrific success, with a full day of presentations from many facets of biological anthropology by students and faculty from all over the southwest.

Student Prizes for best presentation were awarded to

E. Heffter and K. Missal – Absolute Beginners: Indicators of Knapping Expertise in Simple Technologies

K.K. Catlett and E.S. Daly – An Investigation of the Inhibitory Cascade Model Using Primate Mandibular Deciduous Premolars.

A prize for the best use of “SWABA” in a presentation goes to

C.A. Most and S. Strum – Visual Orientation as Indicator of Infant Social Awareness in Wild Olive Baboons (Papio anubis).

Thank you so much to everyone for participating, and see you next year in Tucson!
